Description of the Proposal

Size: About 100 x 50 enclosed by a 4 high fence of vinyl coated wire with an entry box with two gates to enable the owners to take off the leash securely. Posts every 10. It would be minimally visible from the street.

Construction Cost: Based on the estimates we have received, it would cost $3,300 if professionally installed. If it were built by residents, about $1,500.

Annual Operating Cost: About $300 for insurance and $100-$200 for weed whacking if done by a contractor.

Rules: Usage would be limited to residents and their guests. Detailed rules would be reviewed for input at the meeting.

Environmental Impact: Our water company, Agra, and Chris Backshall have been consulted. Neither felt that there would be any problem with runoff or the water system. Owners are required to clean up after their dogs and peer pressure should enhance compliance.Generally, you go to a dog park when other owners are present so the dogs can play. The proposed location is separated from the Pump House by the parking lot, tennis court, and the playground. A pest control specialist used by several residents was consulted. It was indicated that such a facility should not attract pests, but we were advised to keep bushes and vegetation trimmed down so as not to allow bugs which are normally present to jump on a dog. Tree Tech has removed many dead trees in this lot as part of our long term plan for vacant lots to remove the hazard of dead trees and to improve the appearance of the community. This lot was given precedence over other lots because of its proximity to the parking lot and tennis court and the possibility of a dog park.
