Memorial Weekend History Party

On Sunday, May 30th, 77 neighbors and friends celebrated more than 80 years of history at Mount Kemble Lake. Gil Fitzhugh ferried guests around the Lake in his 1911 antique car to set the festive mood. Patrick Roberts was seen driving a ‘67 EJag and he’s not even two!

Chris Allyn and Joyce Murray encouraged visitors to check out the various displays and the history room. A quiz sheet was to be filled out (winners were Jordan Hall and Bob Gray—quiz and answers can be viewed on the MKL Web site).

The displays included wall-to-wall photo montages (mounted around the room by George Burd), books of invitations from parties over the years, notices of annual meetings,  regular meeting minutes, names of members of the various boards, playbills from past  parties, a collection of beach badges (badges from 2007-2010 needed), and a timeline of house turnovers over the years, among other things.

The history room features some fascinating original maps of the community and a great storage

case with multiple drawers for flat storage of maps and documents. The case was donated to the history room by Marsha Wilke, a friend of the community who has been coming to parties here for more than 10 years. The foyer outside the history room has a new ceiling, lights, and paneling, thanks to Bruce Scolnick and John Murray.

Anyone with items to donate to the history collection is asked to call Joyce Murray (425 0646) or Chris Allyn (425 1246), who will be happy to pick them up, catalogue them, and add them to our displays. The “book” of Mt Kemble Lake may yet be written based on our collected memorabilia!

Roads Cleanup

(continued from page 1)

The Summer Roads Patrol list will be out in your mailboxes this week. Please help our volunteers by reporting any problems you notice to the “on duty” persons of the week—or to me.

Fall Road cleanup is scheduled for November 20, 2010.

Many of you have noticed that we have a “sink hole” at the beach parking lot. Ken Heiden has volunteered to oversee the repair needed and is working on the problem assisted by  Feilim Maxwell. Our thanks for their help!

Have a nice, safe summer!

— Gail Chalfant, Roads Chair

Clubhouse Maintenance

As you tend bar at the next clubhouse function you’ll be happy to note that we now have a functioning ice machine in our refurbished bar!

Also, the crash bar on the clubhouse door that has been giving us problems since it was first installed is being worked on so as to be repaired or replaced in the most cost effective way possible.

 —Bruce Scolnick, Clubhouse Maintenance Chair
