We lost both our dishwasher and refrigerator over the past 10 days.  We came to find out that the as a result of the power outages this summer (hurricane and snow storm) and then the recent brief power outages that the power surges destroyed the electrical system and compressor.  It was recommended that these appliances have surge protectors to protect this from happening.

The good news is that Homeowners Insurance will cover the damage caused by the power surges, but it would be worthwhile to share that having surge protectors would prevent this from happening.  Fortunately we had them on the computer and other items.
