A new dogwood tree

The community welcomes a new dogwood tree, planted near the tennis courts. The tree was donated to the community in memory of Carl Bonar’s mom, who passed away recently. Our condolences to Carl and Diane, and thanks for this gift to the community!

Dues Schedule Reminders

Note that dates for the issuance of  dues reminders and due dates for submission have been added to the MKL Social Calendar on the Web site.  Next dues reminder (Lakeshore) will be out on July 1st; the Association dues posting is September 1. Please be prompt with your dues payments—the job of treasurer is stressful enough without having to track down those who are late with their payments!

Email mkltreasurer@gmail.com to receive your dues notices by email.

Proposals approved at April 27th Special Meeting

The community approved proposals to provide for the ongoing fiscal health of our community. One is the implementation of a Membership Fee to be paid by new residents joining the community. Another is a guarantee that dues collection will be paid upon the sale of a property.

A third proposal to place community owned properties in conservation easement was also approved. For more details, see the minutes of the Association and of Lakeshore for this special meeting on the Web site.

Environmental Stewardship Committee

An “Invasives Walk Around” was held between rain showers on May 16th. A representative from Friends of the Great Swamp pointed out the most common of our invasives—the multiflora rose and barberry. She suggested that removal of these from such areas as below the dam and along the lagoon by the clubhouse and replanting with native species would benefit the native and migrating bird populations that depend on the native species.

Summer is here! Slow down!!

Bettina Bierly reported a distressing incident of a box turtle (pregnant, no less!) that was killed by a careless driver  coming around the bend—too fast—on Trails End near her mailbox.

Please be careful of your speed—and that of your vendors— for the sake of our children— and our wildlife!

Community e-mail policy
discussed

Web master Terry Dwyer met with Community Affairs Chair Barbara Coe and Country Club Social Chair Karen Sabol to discuss developing a policy for all-community messaging. We agreed that the use of all-community emails should be kept to a minimum. Generally we agreed that items  of a personal/family nature should be directed to the Community Affairs chair for distribution, and reminders of MKL events and activities should be directed to the Social Chair. We will be working to develop guidelines to post on the Web site in the future.

Other topics for discussion include implementing an emergency email list to supplement/replace our emergency phone list.
