Irene’s Legacy
Sleepless nights, wet basements, and too many days of power outages left us dazed but thankful that our homes were spared the worst of the storm’s devastation. The water damage rivaled the downed limbs and trees but houses remained for the most part intact. Thanks to Rick Barrett for keeping the generator that pumps our water running so we didn’t have any interruption in our water supply. Thanks also to Chris Allyn for monitoring the Lake water level during the storm and adjusting the level—manually—to keep the flow from reaching dangerous levels!!
Diane Bonar, Chair of Grounds, has been monitoring the tree debris removal. Some branches may remain for the Fall Roads Cleanup, which will provide chipping services for the many branches too big to break up manually.
Joyce Murray reported that we had some leakage to the clubhouse roof, as well as more of the same water problems in the basement. Bruce Scolnick added that there was some leakage around the chimney during the storm and (continued, p. 2)
An aged resident of Mt. Kemble Lake was another casualty of Irene—a venerable walnut tree on the property line between the Barretts and Van Kirks went down in the storm. The challenge of removing the huge tree is being discussed.
