Break-in at MKL!

The Davies home on Lake Trail West was broken into Friday evening, Sept. 2, just as power was being restored to most residences at the Lake. Anyone with information about suspicious activity that evening should contact Christine or the Harding Twp. Police Department.

Please remember we have a Neighborhood Watch program and should always be on the alert for any suspicious activity. Report immediately to the Harding Twp. PD, which is always quick to respond.

Dues Schedule Reminders

Note that dates for the issuance of  dues reminders and due dates for submission have been added to the MKL Social Calendar on the Web site.  The most recent dues reminder (for Association dues) has been issued; payment is due October 1.

Please be prompt with your dues payments—the job of treasurer is stressful enough without having to track down those who are late with their payments!

Email mkltreasurer@gmail.com to receive your dues notices by email.

Deer Disease Hitting Local Herds

A disease (EHD) is affecting deer in our area, resulting in at least 3 dead or dying  deer found at the Lake.  The symptoms of Epizootic Hemorragic Disease are lethargy, high thirst, drooling, and  shock. If you see an affected deer, call the Police Department if the animal is still alive or the Health Department if it is already dead. The disease is spread by the bite of a species of midge fly, which is likely to die off with the onset of colder weather. The midge bite doesn’t infect humans and the virus doesn’t spread from animal to animal or to humans.

Irene, continued

some ceiling tiles were damaged. Repairs are being addressed.

Another casualty was the huge black walnut tree on the border between the Van Kirks and the Barretts (pictured). Many hours of consultations are going into figuring out how to have it removed—and perhaps how to salvage some of the valuable wood. Suggestions welcome!

Emergency Contact Phone Updates  Needed!

Many telephones were knocked out along with the power during the recent storm, with the result that several people didn’t receive the “emergency water conservation” message during the storm. Please provide a cell phone contact  to Rick Barrett so that you will be sure to receive emergency messages even when our home lines  and emails are inoperable.
