Bear Film to be Aired at Harding Twp. Municipal Building

The award-winning 60-minute film “Living with NJ’s Black Bears” will be aired in the main room of the Harding Township Municipal Building—Kirby Hall. Two showings are scheduled:

Friday, March 16, at noon

Thursday, March 22, at 5:00 pm

Lake Lowering Scheduled for April1-15

The Lake will be dropped approximately six feet, starting March 29, 2012.  It will take about three days to lower, at which point we will monitor the water level and keep it down the 6 feet until April 15th. At that time we will close the valves and the Lake will start refilling.

Residents who want to do maintenance on their docks should recognize that the Lake will not be lowered for an extended period. This lowering will probably provide a two-week window for maintenance, depending on the amount of rainfall that we have in April.

—Ruth Chaney, Chair, Beaches and Docks

The film, presented by the Wildlife Management Committee, is “for all who live or travel near bear country” and includes a history of black bears in the area, an exploration of the black bear biology that allows them to carve out a niche in the ecosystem, advice from experts about how to responsibly share your neighborhood and recreation areas with wild bears, and the truth about how to avoid and/or react to all types of black bear encounters.
