For a long time I had wanted to see the big game parks of Africa. Finally I was able to
convince Jane to take a trip there. We decided to go to
Tanzania because it featured many of
the animals and parks we wanted to see, and has been politically stable for many years.

We used a tour company called
Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT), with whom we had taken
a previous trip to South America. We had a great trip! It was a nice mix of wildlife viewing,
semi-rustic adventures, and cultural events. The trip was well paced.  OAT offers pre and
post trip “extensions” and we opted to take a pre-extension to the area near Mount
Kilimanjaro and it turned out to be a nice surprise.

Preparation for the trip took a bit of work. We got our own visas in NYC, and had to get a
number of shots and vaccines. The guides on our trip were personable and knowledgeable.
The food was good with a lot of local dishes supplied (neither of us got ill). The
accommodations were good, and we especially liked the camping in the Serengeti. The
wildlife viewing was spectacular, with a lot of surprises thrown in. Overall a great vacation!
