My brother Mike had always wanted to go bear watching. So we took a trip to the
Katmai Peninsula, southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. We stayed at the Katmai
Wilderness Lodge (
www.katmai-wilderness.com) for four days of fishing and wildlife
viewing. The lodge was the only one along an otherwise wild coast. Access was either
by plane or boat. We flew from NJ to Anchorage (via Seattle), from Anchorage to
Kodiak Island, and from Kodiak to Katmai via seaplane. As Mike said of our four trip:
"The planes keep getting smaller!"

The lodge did not disappoint for wildlife viewing and fishing. Sea life and bears
abounded. We stayed at the lodge for 4 nights. It has a staff of four, and ten guests
(four of whom were from Australia). The food was great, the guests pleasant, and the
nature fantastic.
