The NJ state, Morris County and Harding Police Department send out important notifications, frequently involving critical safety information. Individuals who register can elect which type of notice and from which source they receive them. Go to: https://www.nixle.com/ and on the home page select `Sign up for Free’. On the next page enter your e-mail address, your own password, your name and a cell number that has SMS (Short Message Service/Text) capability.
The next page will ask for your location including city and ZIP code. It is suggested that you use Morristown and 07960 even though that may give you a few more alerts than you want. You can adjust that later.
The next step asks you to refer friends. You can ignore this and just select ‘Skip & Finish’. You will then be asked for demographic information and you can ignore that as well.
The next page will show you all recent alerts you are signed up for. You can unsubscribe to sources by selecting ‘Options’ and then picking ‘Unsubscribe’. When you do that you’ll no longer receive any notifications from that agency.
Even better, to fine-tune alerts, select the “Settings” tab from the upper right and then select the level of alert you want from each listed agency.
